Australian shares dip

On Wednesday, Australian share were lower, as losses in the Metals & Mining, Resources as well as Materials sectors pushed stocks down.

The S&P/ASX 200 went down 0.31%.

Infigen Energy, Spark New Zealand Ltd and Genworth Fp happened to be the best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200. They went up respectively 5.17%, 4.53% and 3.74%.

The worst performers were represented by Monadelphous Group Ltd, Independence Group NL and Western Areas Ltd. They sank 6.67%, 5.52% and 5.36% respectively.              

Falling shares outclassed ascending ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 558 to 498, while 307 remained intact.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, assessing the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, headed south 1.74%, showing 12.536.

The currency pair AUD/USD sank 0.08%, trading at 0.7477, while AUD/JPY went up 0.15%, being worth 84.24.

Aside from that, the US Dollar Index managed to grow 0.16%, trading at 101.14.

February delivery gold futures tacked on 0.10%, hitting $1192.00 a troy ounce.
