S&P affirms American investment-grade ratings after presidential election
On Thursday, the ratings agency Standard & Poor's officially affirmed American’s investment-grade 'AA+/A-1+' rating, a day after the US presidential election, while maintaining its stable outlook.
Donald Trump managed to win the American presidential election in a stunning upset, and it will take office in January, with the Republicans holding majority control of the House of Representatives as well as the Senate.
The ratings agency told that they assume the longstanding institutional strengths as well as robust checks and balances of America will support policy execution in a Trump administration, notwithstanding the president-elect's lack of experience in public office, that raises uncertainty on policy proposals.
However, S&P added that America’s high general government debt along with increased uncertainty over its trajectory constrain the ratings of the world's number one economy.
